Automatic Bird Monitoring & Protection
DTBird® is a self-working System for Bird Monitoring and/or Mortality Mitigation at On&Offshore Wind Turbines (WTG). The system automatically detects birds and can optionally take two independent actions to mitigate bird collision risk: the activation of warning sounds and/or the stoppage of the WTG.

Detection/Collision Control Module
Daylight HD cameras survey 360º around the WTG. Optionally, at night 2-8 Thermal cameras survey the monitored areas around the WTG. Birds are detected in real-time while videos and data are stored. Installation design and operational settings are customized for any Target Species and WTG dimensions. Potential and accidental bird collisions can be recorded and checked in videos with sound through Online access.
Collision Avoidance Module
This module automatically emits warning sounds at birds flying in potential collision risk and discouraging sounds for birds flying in the high collision risk area. The type of sounds, emission levels, and installation and operational settings are adjusted to: target species, WTG dimensions and local sound regulations. No energy production loss and applicable to all bird species. Species-specific sounds can be applied.
 
Stop Control Module
Automatic WTG stop and restart according to real-time bird collision risk evaluation. Adjustable to target species/groups.
Data Analysis Platform
Online Data Analysis Platform provides transparent access to review bird flights including: videos with sound, environmental data and WTG operational parameters. Graphics and Automatic Service Reports for selected periods are also available. Includes three access right levels: Analyzer, Viewer&Reporter and Viewer.

DTBird® & DTBat® features are demanded by environmental administrations of an increasing number of countries. 153 DTBird® & DTBat® units have been installed at 50 existing / projected, onshore /offshore wind farms in 13 countries (Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States). DTBird® is operating at WTG since 2009 and DTBat® since 2012.

Last week the DTBird & DTBat Team attended WindEurope 2019, Europe's largest wind energy event at the Bilbao Exhibition Center in Spain. The Conference & Exhibition lasted from April 2nd till April 4th. During the event, we presented our DTBird & DTBat systems to Wind Farm Developers, Operators and Manufacturers, Environmental Consultants, Project Managers and University students.    More specifically, we spoke about the latest DTBird upgrades: a 67% increase in real-time quality image analyzed, a 26% increase in maximum detection distance, and a 200% increase in video quality (stored in the online data analysis platform). DTBird’s CEO Agustín Riopérez was invited to participate in the closing conference of the MultiBird Project, initiated by the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency. Agustin Rioperez, the CEO of DTBird&DTBat, was among the guest speakers at the recent Winwind Workshop on The new Balearic law on Climate Change and the opportunities to integrate wind energy in protected areas held on November 8th on the Island of Menorca (Spain). Agustin's presentation on the features of the different DTBird&DTBat models was followed by a discussion about the applicability of the technology in the wind farms proposed for the Balearic Islands.

DTBird’s ability to detect and deter large raptors, particularly golden eagles, and to reduce the risk of collisions with wind turbines (WTG) was evaluated in the USA by H.T. Harvey & Associates for the American Wind Wildlife Institute. The evaluation was carried out in 7 DTBirdV4D4 units installed in 2016 in a California wind farm, using eagle-like unmanned aerial vehicles (aka, UAV) with a 2 m wingspan, and studying in situ large raptor behavior registered during 2017.
